Hailing from Spotswood, New Jersey, Captain Murzban "Murz" Morris received his Navy commission from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1995, with a B.S. in Chemistry and a M.A. from the Naval Postgraduate School in National Security Affairs. Sea-tours include Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer aboard USS PAUL HAMILTON (DDG-60), Operations Officer aboard USS SQUALL (PC-7), Operations Officer in USS JOHN S MCCAIN (DDG 56), Operations Officer in Destroyer Squadron 60, Executive Officer and Commanding Officer USS MCCLUSKY (FFG 41) and Commanding Officer USS TAYLOR (FFG 50).

Ashore, CAPT Morris has served as the Combat Systems Officer (N65) for Commander Naval Surface Forces (CNSF), an IA tour to Iraq where he served as the LNO from Multi-National Corps-Iraq (MNC-I) to the Office of Provincial Affairs (OPA), and as the Japan Branch Chief and the Strategic Division Chief for the Joint Chiefs of Staff (J-5, Strategy and Policy Directorate).

His current assignment is as Commodore, Destroyer Squadron TWO ONE, homeported in San Diego, CA.

Commander Dan Cobain

Commander Dan Cobian is a native of San Diego, CA. Upon completion of high school in 1988, he enlisted in the Navy as an Electronics Technician. After four years of enlisted service and a tour in USS HADDOCK (SSN 621) he was accepted into the BOOST program and graduated in 1996 from the University of San Diego with a Bachelors degree in Business Economics. Upon commissioning, he reported aboard USS FORT FISHER (LSD 40) where he served as Auxiliaries and Electrical Officer preparing the ship for decommissioning.

He then reported to USS PRINCETON (CG 59) and assumed duties as the Main Propulsion Assistant and remained on board for his second tour as the Fire Control Officer. During his time on board, PRINCETON was the Air Defense Commander for the CARL VINSON STRIKE GROUP where she conducted Tomahawk Strikes in support of Operation Desert Fox. Prior to reporting to Department Head School, Commander Cobian attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, where he earned a Masters in Financial Management.

Upon completion of Department Head School, he reported to USS STETHEM (DDG 63) where he served as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer from 2003-2006. During this tour, the ship was homeported in both San Diego, CA and then Yokosuka, Japan as part of Forward Deployed Naval Forces. In 2006, after his department head tours, he reported to OPNAV N3/N5 and was assigned to the Maritime Security branch where he served as the Executive Assistant to the Director, Maritime Domain Awareness (OPNAV N5MDA) and was then selected to serve as the Executive Assistant to the Director, Strategy and Policy (OPNAV N5).

Following his tour at OPNAV he was selected for the Federal Executive Fellowship Program and served as the Navy Fellow at RAND Corporation in Washington DC. CDR Cobian then deployed with USS NIMITZ as part of Commander Destroyer Squadron Two Three staff in support of the ASW Beta Test. CDR Cobian then completed a tour at Commander Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet. During this tour he served as the Deputy Executive Assistant, Flag Secretary and Flag Aide to the Commander.

During his most recent sea duty assignment, he served as the Executive Officer and then as the Commanding Officer of USS SPRUANCE (DDG 111). After leaving command, CDR Cobian reported to SMWDC Headquarters as the N5 (Doctrine and Tactics) Branch Head and served as the Executive Assistant to the Commander.

CDR Cobian’s personal awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (4 awards), and various campaign and unit awards.

Jason J. Gabrielson is a native of Mesa, AZ. He joined the Navy in September of 1993 and went to boot camp in Great Lakes IL. After graduation from boot camp he attended Fireman apprenticeship training and then on to the Fleet as an undesignated Fireman.

His first assignment was onboard USS BUTTE (AE 27), homeported in Earl New Jersey. He was assigned to STREAM Division as an UNREP winch mechanic. During this tour he deployed to the Mediterranean Sea with the USS AMERICA battle group. He also was accepted to GSM "A" school and departed in January 1995 to go back to Great Lakes.

After completing A school and being promoted to Third Class Petty Officer, he reported to USS RUSSELL (DDG 59), homeported in Pearl Harbor HI. in August 1995. During his time there he made two deployments to FIFTH FLEET AOR, promoted to Petty Officer Second Class and obtained his ESWS qualification. He departed the RUSSELL in August 1999.

From August 1999 to June 2002, he was assigned to a shore tour at Assault Craft Unit Five in Camp Pendleton CA. While there he was WCS of the gas turbine repair shop. This is where he was promoted to Petty Officer First Class.

From June 2002 to September 2006, he was assigned to USS CHAFEE (DDG 90). He was part of the Pre commissioning crew in Bathe ME., and after sail away was homeported in Pearl Harbor HI. During this tour he made one deployment to FIFTH FLEET AOR with the USS NIMITZ Strike Group, and was promoted to Chief Petty Officer.

From September 2006 to June 2009, he was assigned to AFLOAT TRAINING GROUP MIDDLE PACIFIC, in Pearl Harbor HI. Here he obtained an Afloat Training Specialist certification and his Marine Gas Turbine Inspector qualification.

From August 2009 to May 2012, he was assigned to Commander, Carrier Strike Group NINE, embarked on USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN in Everett, WA as the Flag Engineer. During this time he did two deployments to the FIFTH FLEET AOR, obtained his EAWS qualification and was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer.

From October 2012 to February 2015, after a short TEMDU period on USS THACH (FFG 43) he was assigned to USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52) as Top Snipe. During this tour he completed an eight month DSRA, INSURV and training cycle capped off with a deployment to FIFTH FLEET AOR with the USS CARL VINSON Strike Group. He was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer at the end of this tour.

From October 2012 to February 2015, after a short TEMDU period on USS THACH (FFG 43) he was assigned to USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52) as Top Snipe. Master Chief Gabrielson is currently serving at Commander Destroyer Squadron TWENTY~ONE as the Senior Enlisted Leader and as the engineering lead.

His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (Four Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Six Awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and multiple Unit Awards.
